Portuguese winemaking boasts a rich heritage that intertwines tradition with innovation, creating a diverse and vibrant tapestry of flavours. From the sun-kissed vineyards of the Douro Valley producing world-renowned Port wines to the distinctive varietals like Touriga Nacional and Vinho Verde, Portugal's winemaking is a celebration of terroir and craftsmanship. The maritime influence, coupled with indigenous grape varieties, imparts a unique character to Portuguese wines. Sample a taste of Portugal through this mixed case of Quinta de S. Sebastião wines, which encapsulates the essence of Portuguese winemaking, offering a journey through native grape varieties that showcase the country's commitment to quality and authenticity.

António Parente's passion for the region and his estate gave rise to Quinta de S. Sebastião, an ambitious project aiming to share the best of Portuguese winemaking and revive the love for Estremadura wines (Estremadura Province is a historical province of Portugal, located along the Atlantic Ocean coast in the centre of the country and includes Lisbon). Awards attest to the quality and the passion behind their creations. Established in 1755, this historical estate in Arruda dos Vinhos encompasses 35 hectares steeped in legends. Quinta de S. Sebastião, exporting globally, thrives on unique conditions and environmentally friendly, minimally invasive winemaking methods. Diverse estates, altitudes, and proximity to the sea contribute to distinct grape production, resulting in a wide range of wines with a strong emphasis on provenance—a timeless factor distinguishing their exceptional portfolio.

Rare White 2021 Arinto or Fernão Pires are two relatively unknown grapes (on this side of the world) but that make up many of the white blends coming out of Portugal. They’re grown across the country and can produce wines from dry to sickly sweet with their combination of intense citrus notes and honey spice. The 2021 from Q.S.S Rare is a great example of a dry style; the citrus is most obvious with just a small hit of ginger on the finish. Aromas of bright, ripe fruits leap out of the glass with notes of peach, apricot, and juicy citrus. The wine is light bodied with a vibrant acidity and floral note on the palate.

Rare Rosé 2021 It's rare to see a blend of powerhouses Syrah and Touriga Nacional, so if you're yet to try a bottle of this, we suggest grabbing a few before its gone! The 2021 from Q.S.S is fruit forward, with spiced blackcurrants, vanilla, and black pepper on the palate. Pale pink in colour, this Rosé stuns with bright red fruit flavours of raspberry and strawberry accompanied by dried rose petals and white flowers. The crisp, silky smooth palate gives way to a medium finish with a hint of lingering spice.

Adega de Penalva Dao Red 2021 is a Touriga Nacional blend, ruby colour, bright appearance, and clean aroma, with fruity notes of pine needles and wildflowers. In the mouth it has good freshness, body, smooth tannins and a pleasant finish.

Syrah Tinta Roriz 2021 The wine enchants with its dark ruby colour and expressive aroma filled with prunes, black fruit, and truffles notes. The palate is fresh, delivering a smooth, engaging structure that beautifully showcases the wine's complexity. The region’s Mediterranean climate, with a notable Atlantic influence, nurtures the grapevines, shaping the wine’s distinctive flavour profile. Crafted from a blend of Syrah and Tinta Roriz, (Tempranillo) the São Sebastião Red Wine offers the finest qualities of these classic grape varieties. The winemaking process includes cold soak fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This method helps to extract the optimal flavours and aromas from the grapes while preserving their freshness.

Touriga Nacional 2017 Touriga Nacional is one of the most planted red wine grapes in Portugal and is one of the main grapes in Port. It’s known for its lush berry flavours and for making full-bodied, dry red wines. Touriga Nacional thrives in the warm, sunny Mediterranean climate and luxuriates in Portugal’s cool Atlantic breezes. This wine is deep garnet in colour with aromas of blackberry, dark raspberry, plum, and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied with balanced acidity and velvety tannins. It would go lovely with red meat dishes, particularly venison and lamb.

White 2022 is a Sauvignon Blanc and Arinto blend with a citric colour, expressive nose, lime notes, and fresh tropical aroma. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, the palate is soft with a refreshing and citric acidity, pairing well with soft cheeses, fatty fish, fillets of swordfish and white meats.
